Review of Rope (1948) by Ashley C — 26 Dec 2008
Even taking into account that the film's famously employing one complete shot per reel tends to draw a little too much attention to itself, this was always one of my favorite Hitchcocks. The dialogue is wonderfully duplicitous, and if the cinematography is a little showy, it also tells the story gracefully and economically (not to mention with great, great wit).
Only Hitch could build tension to the breaking point with an extended shot of someone cleaning up after dinner.
