Review of Rope (1948) by Julio C — 02 May 2010
An absolute gem of a film that delights and engages a modern audience effortlessly - must have stunned the moviegoers of its day. Rope is an experimental film by Hitchcock, theoretically a single take, actually a few takes with some cute and some clumsy wipes.
To go looking at Rope as an exercise in cinematic technique is to sell it and yourself short. It's a great play, charming and tense which battles the conceits of class and manners within a Neitchien context.
The performances are just mint, with Jimmy Stewart just superb. An absolute must for any movie lover, if it comes on a big screen near you, go see it.
