Review of Rope (1948) by Nichola M — 09 Jul 2010
You can tell that this was originally a stage play - it felt like a trip to the theatre without leaving my living room! The film plays out in real time and could have been done as a single shot (had the film not run out in the camera).
As a result there is no let up from the macabre situation or the mounting tension as we are witness to every moment from the murder to the ineviable reveal. With underlying hints of homosexuality this really is a film to make you think and causes you to look closely at the characters and to mull over what you have seen.
A thoughtful and thought provoking little film.
