Review of Rope (1948) by Jim C — 22 Jan 2012
Rope is a film about two ambiguously gay men living together in 1948 who kill a friend just to see what it would be like to kill someone. Then they tick his body into a chest and serve his family and friends dinner from it, for added thrill of course.
The film was all shot in one take, a gimmick that comes across as an on-screen play rather than a conventional movie. Some might enjoy this approach, but I found it a little monotonous. Not Hitchcock's best, or Stewart's for that matter.
