Review of Room (2015) by Jon P — 24 Feb 2016
Lenny Abrahamson's taunting drama turns Emma Donoghue's nuanced novel of the same into a sublime sensory experience.
This oscillating tale of entrapment, escape and re-entry into society is a distressing yet rewarding film, carried by tomorrow's acting heavyweights in the form of Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. The film's charming child perspective is not only a breath of fresh air from the grisly Fritzl-inspired fiction cinema has seen in recent years, but it also makes for a meaty hook on which to hang its harrowing story.
Room is a dexterous slice of cinema on all levels, and highly unlikely to leave those drawn to its secrets disappointed.
