Review of Room (2015) by Amanda C — 14 Mar 2016
Room is a film that gets it. Telling the story of a young woman's abduction and abuse from the perspective of her son means the story can be told without exploitation. The moment that Jack first views the world is one of the most expansive and freeing in cinema thanks to the wonderful direction of Penny Abrahamson.
Brie Larson is well deserving of all the praise she has gotten from the role and I just hope it doesn't ruin her career like similar breaks have for other actresses. Jacob Tremblay handles a difficult part with intellegence beyond his years.
All together, Room is one of the best films to deal with the abduction and captivity of women (there are more than you think) and one of the best films of the year.
