Despite the content of the film, this was a refreshing film to watch. The fact that Brie Larson carried practically the entire film without makeup ( compared to most female actresses who wouldn't stand for such a thing) and the innocence of her child was enhanced by the fact that he had never seen the outside world until he was 5 years old made this film endearing to watch.
