This was a really good adaptation to the book; it's such a sad story. I remember feeling like she was way more frustrated with Jack not adapting to the new world as quickly as she was than they portrayed in the movie, but they did show some aspect of it.
all in all, the book is heartbreaking, but the film is very good as well.
