Review of Room (2015) by Cmakos14 . — 22 Feb 2016
Let me wipe my tears...wait...okay. Room is a powerful movie of survival and trying to make sense of what comes next. Brie Larson (Joy) and Jacob Tremblay (Jack) work as a perfect mother-son duo during this frantic and bewildering time both inside this room and out in the world. The direction is incredibly smart; the tone and pacing are always subtley on mark. It evokes emotion when necessary, brings about laughter when appropriate, and makes one contemplate life itself in grand and small moments. Complemented with great cinematography, one sees the world with Jack for the first time, in all its vastness and astoundment.
The screenplay and dialogue are what truly defines this movie. It's so realistic, moving, and simply satisfying with each passing action; it makes one wish they could of written such a marvel. The movie takes the perceptions of both Joy and Jack inside and outside the room, allowing the audience the connect and empathize with these characters. Not just for their unfortunate predicament but because they come to know those characters and all their idiosyncrasies. I can't say enough good things about this movie. Bravo.
