Unremittingly bleak. Even the glimmer of hope for the characters at the end of the film comes across as strained. As for Potente's Christina, you'd want to wring her neck. The character's lack of responsibility and accountability is off-putting.
Positive elements in the movie includes commanding performances by Bana, young Smit-McPhee and Geoffrey Simpson's gorgeous photography.
