Review of Romantics Anonymous (2010) by Daniele C — 24 Jan 2012
"Les emotifs anonymes" is a delicate movie, in a way that only French cinema is able to do.
The world the director creates seems magic: the little French village, the old chocolate factory, the goofy and shy protagonists. Nevertheless, as the movie goes on, the magic is quickly lost, due to a poorly developed script.
The main (and best) idea of the movie, the chocolate story, looses its fundamental role in favor of the love story of the two protagonists, which ironically has no appeal without the chocolate side.
Even the poor 80 minutes of the movie are an evidence of the lack of development of the script -seems like the director had a brilliant idea... and then left it stagnate for a bit more than one hour.
The movie reaches sufficiency only thanks to the main actors who give a brilliant interpretation of their characters and are the only factor that keeps the movie going.
