Review of Roman Holiday (1953) by Rob W — 11 Aug 2012
For a while this film reminded me largely of "It Happened One Night." I would not be surprised if the makers of this film drew some ideas from it. However, that does not take away from how good this movie is.
The characters are well developed, even Joe's friend (who ended up winning the Academy Award for best Supporting Actor), and their motivations are clear. The ending leaves you hopeful but also somber.
This film is sort of a slice of life piece for the two main characters. It was an important in each of their lives, but still only a passing moment in the grand scheme of things. It was a fun few days.
A "vacation" of sorts. I give credit to this film for doing everything in Rome. A classic film worthy of it's place in history.
