Review of Roma (2018) by Alan M — 09 Jan 2019
ALL FIVE STAR FAIL TO KNOW WHAT THIS FILMS ABOUT.
There's a giant blue crab in Mexico called Puerto Ceiba - Cangrejopolis.
What about the name of film - Colonia Roma a neighbourhood in Mexico-.
This film is like watching paint dry and the only savour is the fact the maid gave birth to a stillborn, which was unpleasant to watch and a the girl Clio almost drowned. You could cut the film and combine the shower pole martial arts scene which was very strange «Full Frontal Male Nudity" with the moment she tells meets her boyfriend doing martial arts and tells him she's pregnant thus cut out all the pointless scenes of her going to hospital and boring family stuff. --------------------------------------Main plot: Mexican girl servant to white people meet guy who does martial arts and is part of resistance in Mexico in 1970. The guy then leaves her and she tracks him down only for him to say he will kill her if he sees her again. Then later in her pregnancy she goes shopping with the mother of the houses mum and see him involved in riot where people are shooting inside a bed shop and she goes in to labour as she noticed him and he her. Then her water breaks on the floor in bed shop and she is rushed by the grandmother of her house and gives birth to a dead baby and you see doctor saying 123 ventilate about 4 times baby's dead. ............................................................................This is not the end a few month or weeks pass and she goes on holiday with mother and children and a there is a sub plot is the father has left mother I think you only see father about once. The children love the ocean and the maid does not and is forced to go in the sea to save the girl called Clio and on doing so manages to release the pain she had and breaks down crying in the arms of the family bonding with them. Now in the film she seem to have a new zest for life and that the end. The film is not challenging but rather dragged out and really does not tell the story in the usual way, but maybe that why people like it. I don't feel I care for the servant girl by watching this film or the family. -----------------------------------------------------Did any else think why is that guy dressed as a porcupine near a forest fire an accident waiting to happen, did he catch fire?. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------About 30 minutes of non-sense or more and I did not know why there was a riot in Mexico in 1970 nor why the guy needed to do martial arts when I was watching this movie, I thought maybe he did it to give himself a faster swing. I never look at a shower curtain rod in the same way again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just found out on line that this film is political about the corpus christi massacre and the united states alleged involvement training people. her boyfriend fermín trained by usa gringo at martial art scene with bamboo canes in movie is that why he could not be in serous rellationship with her against hes training.
Why so many films secretly about anti-America propaganda, what next this film wins an Oscar.
