Review of Roma (2018) by Ray S — 18 Dec 2018
Great cinematography and recreation of 1970s Mexico City, but this is not a great movie. The main problem is its Indian maid protagonist, who has no personality whatsoever beyond sacrificing herself for the white family (which is a very tired movie trope).
You always feel the story is written by an outsider imagining, rather unsuccessfully, what the life of indigenous servants in Mexico to be. It didn't work for me.
