Review of Rollerball (1975) by Daniel P — 09 Mar 2008
Where the first movie represented the the western society and democracy (in the image of our hero from texas) fighting against totalitarian regimes and communism, this movie gives us a picture of consumerism gone wild, led on by executives with no ethics.
Still keeping the russians as the evil "Other". The hero, super individualistic although looking out for his team mates, does not solely win the battle on account of his strength like in the first movie, but must first go through a matyr-saviour phase in order to accomplish that.
Ends up presenting a revolution as a solution to commercialism - childish imho.
