Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) by Tjaw — 21 Apr 2017

In the same way that The Force Awakens grew on me, Rogue One has really grown on me too, which is why I'm upgrading my score for this film from 4/10 to 7/10. No, it's not as good as The Force Awakens - its characters are kind of flat and it's nowhere near as fun.

But after giving it a second viewing, Rogue One is honestly pretty good to me now. It's far from perfect, but it's a decent enough Star Wars experience with very strong visuals, great action scenes and a dark tone.

What it lacks, unfortunately, is the colourful spark and charm that TFA provided. Too many scenes from Rogue One feel like a soap opera and it can come across as miserable and boring at times. So, for anyone who disliked it the first time, give it one or two more viewings and it may grow on you.
