Rogue One should have been its own movie.

The first act is clumsy and doesn't help develop the characters.

While at times a lot of fun for the longterm fanboy, as a film it fails to bring a sense of its own security to be its own thing. Rogue One would have been considerably better if it delivered a movie you didn't need to see all 7 other movies to enjoy on a "fan service" level.
