Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) by Bridgid C — 27 Jan 2017
Touches much deeper than ever before - in the OT era setting , at least - on morally grey actions performed by the protagonists, and how war affects innocent civilians. I also really loved the religious depth, which, in my opinion, has been a long time coming, as well as additional information about non-Jedi force-worshippers - in fact, I believe, their first live-action appearance.
All of the main characters had depth, and the backstories (shown partially in deleted scenes, partially in the official guidebook) add even more; the fact that Lyra Erso quite possibly used to be part of the rumoured Church Of The Force before she and Galen fled from Coruscant.
This movie certainly doesn't fail on the action front, either - it is a straight-out war movie, with merciless action sequences and extremely high casualty rates. And, of course, X-wings, the Death Star, and even a Mon Cala admiral.
A phenomenal movie.
