Review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) by Ben J — 12 Apr 2017
Finally they made a Star Wars film worthy of the originals trilogy. I must admit I was upset at first as it was so obvious that the characters/plot were pulled straight from the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight computer games.
Jyn Erso = Jan Ors, Cassian Andor = Kyle Katarn, and even has a glimmer of Jerec being a blind force weilder and having red and black clothes. Even the valley of the Jedi from Dark Forces 2 is sort of intertwined in there.
Upsetting as it is feeling that mine and many others favoritesâ< Star Wars character Kyle Katarn may never see the light of day in the Star Wars cannon thanks to this. I must admit I fully enjoyed it, it was the firdt time I felt they truly captured the spirit of the original trilogy.
The action and jokes were fun but not goofy like in the prequels. And the story came together to set up the original trilogy nicely at the end. Donnie Yen was fantastic and I would love to see him in a spin off Star Wars movie of his own.
All in all a brilliant Star Wars movie that could have only been made better if Kyle Katarn had been put in his rightful place stealing the death star plans. I'm hoping they might bring him back for the 2nd death star plans fingers crossed.
4 Stars :-).
