Review of Roger Dodger (2002) by Mikey A — 23 Aug 2008
I really enjoyed the first 3/4 of the film, namely Campbell Scott's performance.
The last quarter is shot nicely, but it's the story that disapointed me.
It's not that it didn't make sense or that it was to esoteric, but rather, it was too predicable.
What had been an interesting character study of a psychologically irritated misogynist suddennly becomes a feel good story focusing on the boy - perhaps the underlying principle being that had Roger had someone in his life to do what he did for his nephew, that maybe Roger wouldn't be the way he is...
Unfortunatley though I do believe said concept to be the major revelation, on film it comes accross as cheesy and predictable.
