Review of Rocky II (1979) by Brittany G — 23 May 2009
The struggles in life, career and reputation that are felt after Rocky's "quarrel" with Apollo Creed are essential, if not predictable. To say that Sylvester should have stopped with Rocky here would be going too far, though it is evidently the lesser of Rocky and Rocky II.
It stops as being a dimwitted yet heavyhearted man in the midst of an identity crisis and begins being something a lot more... I can't bring myself to explain it elaborately but- something fake and mixed. I write these words delicately although with confidence.
Over all an okay movie, more for the eyes and the action that the emotion and mood. Plot was, for lack of better word, mediocre. Character development simply did not happen as consistently as I would have liked. Rocky II Lacks complexity and the hearty and acceptable simplicity of Rocky I, most certainly its sting and mood as well.
