Review of Rocky Balboa (2006) by Zachary L — 24 Aug 2010
This movie isn't a sequel. It's remake. Other than the obvious agedness of Stalone, I could swear I was watching the first Rocky movie. There is almost nothing original in this movie. Rocky's love interest is a very shy girl who no one ever gave a chance and now doubts herself.
She isn't ugly, but she isn't gorgeous either, and Rocky treats her like a princess. Paulie's life is falling apart, but he draws comfort by transference onto Rocky's success. Rocky's opponent is the undefeated heavy weight champion, and the fight is just supposed to be for show because no one is giving Rocky a chance of even finishing the fight.
All Rocky wants to do is go the distance, and although he loses the fight, he does go all the way and prove he has the heart of a champion. He wins in life and earns the adoration of the fans. I was half expecting Carl Weathers to play Mason Dixon.
All that being said, I did enjoy Rocky I, so I did give it a half descent rating.
