Review of Rocks in My Pockets (2014) by Tor M — 13 Nov 2015
A Latvian history-lesson done with an impressive technique. The story, that for me is unknown, is mixed with fiction. The plot goes from historical stuff to the mind of the director. She is depressed, suicidal and there is not much delight here. Familial mental illness are other keywords here.
A brave film, lovely crafted and something very original. There are several things that I don't like here. It's really hectic - the pace is superfast. It's also a bit tiring after a while. A monotone story that goes on with only one voice is demanding.
Signe Baumane has done everything here. She is the director, the writer, the voice, the editor and the animator. Very impressive debut indeed.
6 out of 10 mental issues.
