Review of RocknRolla (2008) by Lee B — 19 Aug 2010

Hmmm? There are a lot of digs on Guy Ritchie. The local San Francisco critic blasted him for being the worst director or something like that after Sherlock Holmes (which I have vowed to not see). I won?t go that far. But I can say this, he definitely has a style he sticks with. It's an interesting style that works well for scenes, but not over a whole movie. Lock-Stock was kitschy and Snatch was better. I didn't see revolver but it's clear that with this movie he is set in it and just throwing money at it.

So with this movie, if you rate it on a Guy Ritchie scale, is great. As a movie, it's interesting and entertaining at times. But this style doesn't bode well for introducing a plot or exposition of points. It also makes you not acknowledge, or want to acknowledge many of the side characters - which based on the visual tone, always have some sort of importance.
