Review of RocknRolla (2008) by William B — 08 Jun 2011
One of the greatest movie watching experiences I've had in a long time. Guy Ritchie has also become one of my new favorite directors, as he presents the Pulp Fiction-like gangsters and events in a stylish and distinctly British way.
Gerard Butler gives his usual charming/bad-ass performance, and Tom Hardy is compelling as handsome Bob, the gangster who happens to be a poof. The scene when he comes out to Butler was quite a surprise and very intense.
But it was definitely Toby Kebbell who stole the show for me, playing the presumed dead rock-star, one of the most fascinating characters I've seen on screen. With ingredients of some Russell Brand and some Jack Sparrow, but with a hell of a lot more hard-ass.
I can't begin to describe all the things I loved about this film but is definitely a must-own DVD and is being added to my top films list.
