Review of RocknRolla (2008) by Tom R — 02 Jul 2010
Has most of the trappings of a Guy Ritchie London Crime Epic: disgusting villains, ambiguous heroes, a multitude of interwoven stories, a love interest, lads' humor, sports, kinetic cinematography, a gritty urban locale, a little of the ole' ultraviolence, a climatic series of deaths, and a surprise or two at the end.
However, it has a story that is way too complicated to follow and characters who are not nearly as enjoyable, interesting, or fresh as those we saw in "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" or "Snatch". 2007's "In Bruges" was a worthy successor to those films. This one just seems like good material has become a little worn out by overuse.
