Review of RoboCop (2014) by Kyle F — 22 Dec 2015
A very underrated film, and for the dumbest reasons I must say. The largest criticism for this film comes from that it is not the same as the original, but do you honestly want a remake that is almost exactly the same as what it is based off of? If so then you can watch the original film and/or trilogy.
A remake is already guaranteed to piss a lot of people off because you are touching their beloved franchise, the least you can then is to be brave and refocus or alter it to create something new (unless the original film is so old that the reboot is nothing more than a needed quality update), and this is exactly what Robocop (2014) did: took an old franchise and reinvented it to successfully deal with a modern issue a bold, sleek, intelligent, and original way while maintaining enough aspects from the original to be considered a successful homage.
This movie is not absolutely amazing, but it certainly is noteworthy and a great social commentary that is being put down because of nothing more than people's own stubbornness and reluctance for change.
