Review of RoboCop (1987) by Omar L — 19 Nov 2011
I won't bother watching the other films in this series. I want to remember this one the way I did watching it as a kid. Ultra-violent, shocking, in the vein of pulp fiction bleeding through some sci fi pages. Murphy is a family man, a suburban cop that's moved into a city that's out of control with crime, and he's a good courageous man. We catch just enough of Murphy to like him and root for him as his warm personality comes through the stone cold Robocop. It had been years since I watched film as a kid and all the scenes came flooding back to my memory as fresh and exciting as the first time I watched it. It's a cult classic in my mind with the score, violent entertaining dialogue, and clever taboo directing that we've come to know from Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Showgirls). It always feels good rooting for the bruised anti-hero that fights against stacked odds. 8/10 from me.
"Excuse me, I have to go. Somewhere there is a crime happening.".
