Review of RoboCop (1987) by Glenn C — 04 Mar 2013
It's movies like Robocop that made the 80s one of the coolest eras for movies ever. It came along at a time when sci-fi action films were being defined and movies like Terminator, Eliminators and Aliens were dominating the screens and particularly the video rental market.
Its a movie that's always fun to revisit and it's ultra violent and hands-on approach to action gives it an energy that most action films of today lack. There's some hokey stop-motion animation going on in the movie and I think this adds to it's charm.
.. it certainly doesn't detract from the story and I reckon I would much rather see theses type of animated creations than much of the CGI we're insulted with these days. 70s and 80s action films capture an important moment in film history and we'll never see movies like it again.
As an adult looking back to my childhood of 80s videos, I am surprised at how violent and bloody some of these movies actually were... the first kill in Robocop is almost repulsive.... in a kick ass way!
