Review of RoboCop (1987) by Jonathan R — 26 Feb 2014
Having just re-watched this after many years and after also recently seeing the robocop reboot I can honestly say its a real shame the sequels to this movie didn't capitalise on the original's fiery spirit and blatant contempt for the corporate hierarchy.
If the following films had taken a more serious tone and travelled further down the path of Murphy battling his inner humanity and the ruthless powers that be that brought about his re-birth the original Robocop trilogy could have been classics.
The sequels unfortunately fell into the 90's commercial trap as well as the goofy non humour that persisted throughout the decade. A great film that should've spawned an excellent franchise and if the re-boot had been as feisty and compelling as this film then I think we would've been in for the franchise that could've been.
Unfortunately the re-boot didn't really deliver on the scale it should've done, such a shame.
