Review of RoboCop (1987) by Hellholehorror — 12 Nov 2022
This has aged incredibly well. The pacing is fantastic. It is a b-movie but it’s a really well made b-movie. Robocop is so shiny, I feel they would make the robot with a matte finish nowadays. The main actors do well but the smaller roles are generally badly acted which only bring down the overall enjoyment a little.
The story is enjoyable. It is just great fun. It is slightly campy but that is why it is some much fun with a beer in your hand. The effects are big, the story fast and action explosive. The violence is visceral and extreme and bloody.
The direction is solid and all the complexity of how some of the scenes are shot gives the film an enthralling energy. It’s reminiscent of Alien (1979) and Terminator (1984) but slightly cheesier.
