Review of Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964) by Sean C — 01 Jun 2008
I've wanted to see this movie for awhile. It has a cult reputation. It was directed by Byron Haskin who is known for the 1953 adaptation of War of the Worlds (which I thought was horrible). It was a critical hit, but a failure at the box office, the title probably didn't help.
Upon watching it, I do find it tries to go beyond the regular sci-fi themes that Hollywood liked to exploit and does stay very faithful to Daniel Defoe's original story, but the problem is I never liked the book and found it to be really boring.
I can appreciate its importance and influence, but I could never get into it and the movie is basically the same thing. It's interesting seeing Adam West before he starred in the Batman tv series.
