Let me start by getting the bad things out of the way for Robin Hood. The script isn't the greatest but it's serviceable. The characters are mostly one-dimensional archetypes, and there is an almost complete disregard to any sort of historical accuracy. Now the good news.

None of that matters.

This version of Robin Hood is one part 300, one part Assassin's Creed, and one part Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet--and it's a helluva fun ride! What Robin Hood lacks it more than makes up for with fantastic action sequences and likable characters. It injects drama in the right places without ever taking itself TOO seriously and the acting, while a bit melodramatic at times, makes up for the shortcomings of the script. I would put it on the same level of The Mummy with Brendan Fraser. Critics also hated and panned that film for all the same reasons that they are trashing Robin Hood. Yet audiences were thoroughly entertained and the film wound up being a smashing success.

I am usually very hard on movies like this, but admittedly, I had a great time watching this film. If you want a fun, action packed, pure popcorn movie, you can't go wrong with The Hood.

The critics can go jump on this one.
