Review of Robin Hood (2009) by Trevor O — 14 Sep 2012
Really silly, but fun. Yet another dumb, fun 90's action flick. The biggest complaint is Robin Hood has an American accent. Kevin Costner was nominated for a Razzie. His performance isn't bad, it's just his accent wasn't right for the role. He's good in the movie. The other American actors struggle like crazy to keep their Australian....... sorry, "English" accents under control.
Alan Rickman is the star of the show. He won a BAFTA for his performance and he turned down the role 3 times. He has great fun playing his OTT bad guys.
Come to think of it, everyone kind of overacts in this film. It's like a Steven Sommers film, only without the CGI.
Morgan Freeman does a good job playing Azeem. The whole racism story is new to this version of Robin Hood.
The action scenes are great and Michael Kamen's score is brilliant. I also like the Bryan Adams song.
I'm a big 90's kid and I always will be. The 90's may be gone, but they will always be with me and other people my age.
