Review of Robin and Marian (1976) by Matthew C — 26 Sep 2010
Not by any means a great film, this is still an interesting, somewhat sad look at the life of a daring, violent, adventurous man after his battles are fought. Sean Connery, only in his mid 40s, looks like an old man (pretty much looks the same today as he did in this film), selling his weary, wary old soldier.
Audrey Hepburn is just flaky enough to work as the aged Marian, who seems more than a little crazy. And Robert Shaw is the perfect shade of suave, mixed with complacent amusement for his mellowed Sheriff of Nottingham.
For fans of the actors or of the Robin Hood myth, it's worth a watch. But it really is kind of a dud.
