Review of Road to Perdition (2002) by Kyle C — 14 Dec 2013
A somber and beautiful gangster film based on the hit graphic novel by Max Allan Collins. Sam Mendes creates a story about a father and son on the run together from Irish mobsters. This movie is beautiful in it's cinematography and in it's score both beautiful and eerie.
The performances are first rate and the violence is a brief burst that counterpoints the warmth of father and son relationship. But overall the real issue is that we never see the possibility of the son following down a violent life of crime like his father.
Besides all that Mendes has created a fresh and different take from the gangster genre that is both full of action but also intimate and moving.
