Review of Road to Nowhere (2010) by Brent C — 04 Feb 2012
To murky to be truly a masterpiece, Monte Hellman's return to features after a 21 year hiatus is none-the-less an extraordinary and unique film. Taking his old vibe of existential realism to the extreme in a meta-film that is as much about the mystery as it is about filmmaking itself.
We are never sure what is "true" because of the structure of the film but yet it becomes apparent that the blurring of those lines is what is most important. Excellent direction from Hellman, who has certainly not lost any of his chops.
Good performances all around from a relatively unknown cast.
