Review of Risen (2016) by Ricky G — 26 Feb 2016
As a Christian myself I'm always interested in seeing faith based films. After hearing reviews of this being "on par" with "Passion Of The Christ" (which is the best faith based film that is the most accurate to the Bible) after seeing this movie I am greatly disappointed in "Risen".
This movie is very inaccurate in many ways this character is nowhere in the Bible and to me this movie feels like a cash grab at times. There are a a few true things in here but nothing feels actual scripture.
They try to add unnecessary "thrills" in this and it comes off cheesy at times. Joseph Fiennes is actually really good in this movie, he's kept the movie on its feet and he stole the show from everyone.
It was an interesting choice to cast the step dad from Fear The Walking Dead to play Jesus he did a decent job as did everyone else. The acting was not bad. The scenery is beautiful and you can tell that this had a budget but beauty means nothing if the right message isn't being told.
I was really looking forward to this movie as I am with any movie that peaks my interest but I was very disappointed. This movie gives the wrong message and can actually hurt Christians if they use any of this in a argument because about 85% of this movie isn't in The Bible.
