Review of Risen (2016) by Chad G — 07 Nov 2016

This was such an excellent movie. The acting, script, production values, and story were top-notch. I'm quite familiar with Roman history and culture from my own classical studies, as well as with the various accounts of the crucifixion and the events surrounding it, and this was an amazingly accurate production, both historically and biblically.

The socio-political climate in which the events occur are portrayed vividly and effectively, the main characters are well fleshed-out, and the cognitive dissonance of the Roman tribune tasked with finding the missing body is palpable as he is faced with revelations that threaten to completely destroy his worldview, thanks largely to a stellar performance by Joseph Fiennes.

This movie is challenging, captivating, and highly recommended!
