Moving away from the campiness of the 60s and 70s films, Rise of the Planet of the Apes pays humble homages to the original series while redefining the core of Planet of the Apes arguably for the better, introducing a new timeline that leaves us excited for what will come next.
Though the opening is bloated somewhat, Serkis' saving performance as Caesar is an undeniably impressive performance that only gets better as the film progresses.
