Review of Rise of the Guardians (2012) by Whitney W — 19 Jun 2013
I think everyone thought this movie was going to be the dumbest movie to come out in the last year. It looked kind of cool, but if we are all being honest, there is a very, very thin opportunity in which we see a movie about the holiday characters being any good. I stared at this movie for maybe a month before giving in and watching it. Not at all what I expected to say the least.
This movie is both touching and suspenseful. I never once thought it was cheesy which I think is saying a lot about the movie. There are no crass (American) words, crude humor, or sexual content. According to IMDB, the Easter Bunny uses Bloody twice, but if you aren't accustom to hearing it, you won't pick up on the word at all. This is by far the cleanest movie even for kids that I have seen since Nemo. You just do not see the purity in movies anymore, and this literally took me back to my childhood.
The main concern in this movie is that does get a bit dark. You never see any real blood, but it is insinuated with dark sand. It will appear scary to little kids, but this movie has turned into my All-Time favorite animated Film. It is not cheesy, and it speaks the real fears you suffer as a kid with the Boogie man. I think this movie is the most universal animated film in a while. Anyone will enjoy it. 5 out of 5 stars.
