Review of Rise of the Guardians (2012) by Kevin R — 23 Sep 2013
The children are in danger.
The guardians are made up of Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and the Sandman. Their strength comes from children believing in them. One inauspicious day the boogeyman starts giving the children nightmares convincing them that each holiday character is not real. The guardians are forced to work with a character no one cares about, Jack Frost. Will Jack Frost be enough to conquer the boogeyman?
"Can't you see that we're trying to argue?".
"Sorry. Not all of us have to work once a year.".
Peter Ramsey, who worked on the Castaway, Minority Report, Shark Tale, Fight Club, Men in Black, Independence Day, and Tank Girl projects, delivers Rise of the Guardians in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is fairly straightforward with interesting takes on the characters. I thought the animation was awesome as were the action scenes. The voices are well selected and include Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law, Chris Pine, and Isla Fisher.
"Go suck an egg, rabbit.".
We watched this film as a family the other night and Britt and I were fairly disappointed. The movie is just okay but the characters are better than average and the animation and action scenes are excellent. This movie is definitely worth watching once but is not worth adding to your DVD collection.
"The boogeyman was here.".
