Review of Rise of the Footsoldier (2007) by Geraint B — 07 Feb 2009
The director was some kind of wannabe Scorcese, completely ripping off the stylings of Goodfellas but with a Jake LaMotta wannabe in the lead role. The only problem with all this is that the director doesn't seem to be able to grasp the simplest of film making techniques.
The dialogue and acting were abysmal, stand-out moments were the rave scene where the main character (if you can call him that, since he dissapears for half the film) pops his first ecstasy table, and another scene where the black man is in hospital and confronted by his wife. They are so bad I can't put the into words.
Luckily for the film maker the story was intriguing enough to keep me watching. Abit of subtlety would've been nice perhaps.
