Review of Rise of the Footsoldier (2007) by Gary C — 16 May 2010
I watched this one thinking it was going to be just another Green Street Hooligans type football gang movie, which I didn't mind. But Jesus, this was SOO much more intense. The fights were ridiculous.
Imagine modern-day Braveheart without swords. Then there's the rise to power, which is pretty great. "The first time I did drugs and got as close to god as chemically possible"... yup...
This ended up almost like a documentary (it's based on a true story) but it was a very clever/entertaining way to tell it. "What are the odds of you being the only woman to tell the truth?" As if this movie wasn't great enough, there's techno music through the whole thing, hell yeah!
