Review of Rise: Blood Hunter (2007) by Jackalqueen ~ — 09 Dec 2007
This film is trying desparately to be the new 'Blade' but just doesn't cut it, no pun intended!
Lucy Liu plays a journalist who had infiltrated a gang of psuedo-vampires and exposed them in her articles. The real vampires were a bit peeved at her making a mockery of them so they kidnap her, rape her and turn her into one of them.
She then becomes a vampire who is also a vampire hunter and sets about killing off the gang than turned her.
There is nothing new here and has some glaringly stupid mistakes: ie. In one scene, she is suspended by the ankles with her throat slit. The blood is obviously red water as they haven't spent the extra couple of dollars it would have taken to put something in it to thicken it, and when she is rescued, the cop ties a scarf round her throat to stop the bleeding. In reality, this would've done nothing but here, it stops the bleeding so completely that the scarf doesn't have a speck of blood on it and it also cleaned up all the blood which had been dripping down her face a few minutes before.
'Rise' is not a total washout - for those of you who like naked breasts, there's a few on show here and a couple sexy scenes but not enough to redeem this film.
The only real point of interest is seeing Marilyn Manson (playing the bartender) without his make-up. Damn, he's an ugly f*cker without it lmao.
