Review of Rio 2 (2014) by Striking4Gold4 — 22 May 2017
To be fair, the people at Blue Sky are really good people. Granted, they don't make many good sequels, but that doesn't mean that they can't pull off a good movie every once in a while, like Epic, Robots, and of course, The Peanuts Movie.
And then you have Rio, which is just okay, but the animation is beautiful and the songs are awesome. And this happens to be the rare followup to a Blue Sky movie that's actually good! The animation's at the top of its game, the songs are the highlight of the movie and the third act is surprisingly epic and intense.
Sure, the movie does have its fails, like the humans play less of a bigger part (excluding Big Boss) and it can get a bit predictable at times. But those are just nitpicking. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Blue Sky actually made a good sequel.
