Review of Rings (2017) by Bryan D — 05 May 2017
I wonder. In the modern age does Samara use Final Cut Pro or is she in the Adobe Premier came for editing her killer videos?
I'm not sure where one would find it, but there was an original short film called Rings back in 2005 which focused on the events between the first and second American remakes. Anyway the biggest problem with Rings is that it teases us with an actually very interesting premise and then abandons it.
It starts off like any horror film and then shows us some real promise for about ten minutes and then goes back to being overly generic. There is some really lazy writing here where a few twist events are only twists because instead of just telling our main character something in a second, they drag it out.
Featuring Johnny Galecki playing a more age appropriate role than he plays on the positively irritating "Big Bang Theory" we even get Vincent D'Onofrio.
It is hard to say if we'll get another or if they'll just wait to reboot it again. Much of the life of horror is rentals anyway, not box office.
