Review of Ride with the Devil (1999) by Ashley H — 18 Dec 2008
I actually wanted to view this film for quite some time, and never had the option to until now. Though I read several reviews about this film -- most were somewhat negative -- I was still interested. Yes, the film was a little violent for my taste, but the film was actually engaging.
Watching movies based from real-life events are interesting to me. The film's plot and story was a little slow to me. It slowly bloomed. Though the story was insightful in that it incorporated several historical facts, I felt a bit bored by it.
The film's cast was good. I think Jewel actually surprised me the most. She actually good. I'm quite surprised that she hasn't been in another film since then. One thing that I felt a little confused was the ending.
It kind of ended so suddenly. I had to go back and research the film to figure out what the ending was all about. Though there were some bumps here and there, I was still entertain. Yes, the film was slow, but it was also interesting.
Another, yet hidden, gem from Ang Lee.
