Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Christopher D — 17 Feb 2011
Films should make you feel something. This one is a great success in this respect. It does not make you feel mirth or romance. It does not make you feel enlightened or empowered. Rather, it makes you feel utter despair. It's as cheery as a mouthful of buckshot. Were I a divorce attorney, I'd hand out copies of this DVD with my business card glued to the case. The superb writing and acting make it easy to get immersed in the story. Unfortunately, that may not be such a great thing.
We all crave love, romance, passion, and the satisfaction that comes with creating something. All too often, these desires are buried beneath the responsibilities that prove necessary for us to acquire the comfort, security, stability, and shiny objects that are the very definition of conformist suburban life. This dichotomy is what Revolutionary Road explores for 119 glorious and terrible minutes. You've been warned.
