Review of Revolutionary Road (2008) by Phoenixdown — 10 Jun 2017
If I wanted to watch two intensely unlikeable people arguing for 120 minutes then I would go visit my parents. This film was just painful to watch and toward the end I was just hoping one the main characters would commit suicide so that I could get to the end credits.
From the very beginning the miserable protagonists were engaged in realistic and visceral arguments, but I felt no attachment toward them whatsoever. The clear mental instability of Kate Winslet's character also precluded any sympathy toward her and just infuriated me.
Michael Shannon's supporting role was definitely a highlight, but certainly not enough to redeem this pointless, miserable film. Honestly, you would be better off digging your eye out with a spoon.
